Spry Life Groups
Spry Life Groups

At Spry Church, we believe it’s important to foster a sense of belonging and personal connection within our church and in the surrounding community. Life Groups allow people to develop transparent and real relationships with other group members. These groups give members an opportunity to share life within a community during good times and difficult times alike. When we live life together, break bread together, pray together, laugh together, and serve together, we grow closer to one another in love and deepen our relationship with Christ.

Our Goal is Community

As a church that is boldly Spirit-led in community, our goal is to grow together in practical ways to love Jesus and abide in God’s presence, be transformed by the renewing power of the Holy Spirit, and declare hope in Christ to all people.

Our Mission is Love

We are devoted to fellowship and Christian teaching in community (Acts 2:42-47), service and hospitality for our neighbors (Romans 12:10-13), and deep love for one another (1 Peter 4:8).

Frequently Asked Questions

When do Life Groups start?

Our Life Groups follow a seasonal calendar with our primary focus being Spring and Fall. Groups may start and stop at different times depending on the needs or circumstance of each group, but the best time to join a Life Group is in the beginning of Lent or in the beginning of our Fall season. Registration is currently open for our Fall season but will close on September 15th. Group members are making a commitment to their group for that season, which is typically 5-10 weeks long, then the group will discern whether or not they would like to continue, if they will break for the season, or if they will form new groups.

What does a typical Life Group look like?

Every group takes on its own unique identity, but a typical Life Group includes members of diverse age and interests, meets once per week for 1 to 2 hours, consists of 8-15 people, runs 6 weeks to 1 year at a time, and includes a meal or snacks. Every Life Group engages in meaningful discussion rooted in God’s word and lives on mission for the Kingdom of God.

A common meeting format for a Life Group is that of the 4 “W’s”:

  1. Welcome – getting acquainted, sharing life, and eating some good food!
  2. Worship – glorifying God through our conversations, prayers, or songs.
  3. Word – spending time applying God’s Word to our lives
  4. Works – missions, ministering to one another, and planning group activities

For more information regarding variations in group focus, see the Life Group Vision Chart below.

What is the purpose?

The primary purpose of these groups is to get people connected in community so that Spry Church can better Love Jesus, Be Transformed, and Declare Hope. As we form new, life-giving relationships and invite others into the life-giving love of Jesus, we are transformed by the renewing power of the Holy Spirit and spurred on to declare hope in Christ to all people. Life Groups are one of the ways we live out our third Core Value: Boldly Spirit-Led in Community.

Do Life Groups have child care?

Childcare is approached in a number of different ways depending upon the needs of each group. If you are looking for a group with childcare, please indicate such on your registration form.

How do I get involved?

If you would like to lead a new Life Group or you would like to join an existing group, you may register online or contact Pastor Austin to learn more about our growing Life Group ministry (austin@sprychurch.com).

How to I become a leader?

Before becoming a Life Group leader one must have participated in a Life Group at Spry Church for at least one season. Every Life Group leader goes through a leader training process with Pastor Austin to ensure that they are set up to succeed when the Life Group starts. This is followed by ongoing support and communication.

Reminders for Group Leaders

A list of Reminders for Life Group Leaders to keep in their Bibles as they facilitate discussions.

Life Group Member Covenant

During a Life Groups first meeting, the group will agree upon their purpose, establish their timeline, and affirm their commitment as group members. This Life Group Member Covenant, which every member will sign, is an important step in getting everyone on the same page and laying the foundation for a faithful Life Group. The leader will keep this Covenant on hand to reference when needed.

Vision Chart

Every Life Group will naturally take on it’s own identity, but each one will fall under our primary vision for getting people connected in community. This Life Group Vision Chart uses language from our church’s overall mission and vision to help groups understand their unique calling and how it contributes to our greater purpose as a ministry.
